The rest of this is gonna be some short, disorganized thoughts about my aggressive revulsion toward AI slop slingers.

Slop Slingers
Not sure where I heard this term, but I’m keeping it. Daily I run into people so pro-AI that they can’t do anything without “asking Claude” if it’s ok. It’s exhausting. Everyone wants more AI, dozens of bots, all talking to each other. But me just want smol grug brain.
Adapt or Die
Nah. This is all “early adoption” sort of stuff. As time goes on, either the tools will die off, or they will evolve and change. But I certainly don’t want to use them for the only actually interesting part of my job. I’m not doing this to provide value for stakeholders, I’m in this to solve interesting software problems.
Move Fast and Break Things
What I find most interesting about rapid output of code generating chatbots is that they tend to do things in shitty ways that we ordinary rank and file have learned is too risky. And yet mangerial sorts applaude these behaviors. But I, too, could build a docker image on my laptop and push it up to ECR before running it in production without running tests. I bet I could do it quicker. I just know better.
DDoS via LLM
Plenty of open source projects are overwhelmed by PRs submitted by chatbots. It drowns out meaningful contributions from humans. And that’s a shame. I don’t have a solution until these platforms themselves start disallowing chatbot accounts and PRs that don’t come from humans.
Productivity for What?
Every pro-chatbot software person I know talks about how much “faster” everything can move with LLMs. No one has stopped to ask why? What are we racing toward? Keep using the plagarism machine to change your product and it will look more and more like the products the plagarism machine has stolen from. Is that what you want? Sixteen services that all look and behave the same? Your company is going to begin to mirror hot Amazon brands like FLORGRER, ZZPRAT, or BLEGNIR - bullshit slop out of popup chinese factories. Is this your desire for your company?
